On the 1st December, 1931 in the presence of a distinguished company, including the Right Honourable Sir George Perley, Acting Prime Minister, and Sir William H. Clark, K.C.S.I.., C.M.G., High Commissioner in Canada for the United Kingdom, Mrs. Edgar N. Rhodes, wife of Minister of Finance, Poured the first fine gold bar and struck the first silver, nickel and bronze pieces produced in the Royal Canadian Mint.
