Re: Please hone your grading and pricing skills...

YQQ - no disrespect in my last post...Let me also say, no disrespect to any of the other folks on this discussion or the grader, as I have had many conversations with him over the years about grading, he has my respect, even when we don't agree. I do not often weigh in on things and I make it a rule never to weigh in on grading from the internet or any photo, it is so inaccurate and can never, ever be done for any grade, period. But I did, so I will explain what I saw in the photo. First, the coin definately looks like it is a specimen strike. Next I recognized the exact thing AussieBob saw, the dip has taken the surface toning that was from the specimen case and left the remanence engrained in the surface, but going a step further it looks like it has essentually destroyed most of the original luster. Now if the luster is damaged on the Obverse how close to calling it cleaned are we? Next I admit that I figured that the hairlines were on the plastic but who knows. The reverse looks like the high points of the wreath ( on my screen ) look like they have a bit of cabinet friction or such, plus the couple of marks like above the 0 and etc.. So again in hand, this coin is probably beautiful and nothing like I am describing and Brian probably graded it bang on. I also know I am in the minority on this one. But that is the way it presented to me on the photo. I would never grade a coin Unc if it had damaged luster, hairlines and fiction marks.
