Re: Re '59 low 9 Double Punched G in Regina

Bill, and any one else, who is interested, I made a very closely set "overlay", on the screen, and used a coin with the least amount of wear, on either face. It is perfectly flat.I also checked 50 coins for 1. OBV wear, 2. REV wear. and compared the OBV wear severity to the "CLOSENESS" of the "9". In every case the close nine juved with the amount of wear on the OBV. I will go thru the rest of the coins, '59N0, to locate the REV wear patterns. I expect to find the same thing, except that the nine will be "FAR"! The "up or down", eill most likely be due to the hand-punching, as well as the "near/far" flat coins, within a very small area. If that theory be the case, then the Trends Near, far up, or down nines are due to the curvarture of the coin, not something else. Griffin, with the technology available top him, then, very possibly was miss-led by that feature. The hand-punching positioning would be limited to a very small area, if a date punch was used, and the final digit punch "by hand". the "hole for the punch had to be very small. (That is, if a punch with a hole for the final digit was even used, or existed.), based on the use of the "18--, 185- and the four digit punches). Just a thought, but it would account for so many "variations" in that area. IMHO Comments welcome!
