Re: 1943 tombac five cent.

Zoell Third Edition Part 2, page 50 ... shows three(3) examples of this occurrence ... E173a, E173c & E173o...

All three begin with the description ... Patches...

Zoell indicates (by way of pricing) that the larger the area affected by this occurrence ... the greater the value is for such...

It is my opinion, such comes to be as a result of surface impurities (scale) that can form on a coin-blank (any metal) during manufacture...

The scale was retained on this particular coin-blank ... up to and through the actual striking of the denomination...
