With all due respect carpman, I believe you're mistaken on this one.
For example, the 2006 Bravery quarter features the mintmark.
While some other commemoratives (such as the 2010 Remembrance quarter) don't have one, it would appear then that it's not a hard and fast rule.
It still leaves the question why does the Wood Bison coin as depicted on the Mint's own website clearly show it as having the mintmark? Surely they must know what their own products are supposed to look like?
